The Problem & Inspection
This home on King Street in Burford had a 30-year-old stone-coated steel roof that had originally been installed directly over an existing shingle roof. Over time, the system began to fail in several ways.
The homeowner was experiencing coating deterioration and exposed fasteners that had started to back out, creating both performance and aesthetic concerns. More importantly, the design of the existing roofing system had large gaps at key transition areas such as hip and ridge caps and flashing details.
These openings created the perfect environment for wildlife, leading to a bat infestation in the roof structure. The homeowner needed a roofing system that would not only solve the immediate issues but also eliminate the structural gaps that allowed animals to enter.

The Solution
After a full inspection, the decision was made to remove both the failing stone-coated steel roof and the underlying shingle layer so the new system could be installed properly from the deck up.
The Aucoin Roofing team installed a high-temperature rated ice and water shield membrane across the roof deck to provide superior waterproof protection. The new roofing system consisted of Diamond Steel rectangular steel shingles in Sepia Brown, along with all required flashing components designed for a tight, secure installation.
To improve attic performance and ventilation, 4Seasons solar attic fan vents were installed to promote strong airflow and help regulate attic temperatures year-round.

The Finished Results
The completed project transformed the roof into a sleek, modern steel roofing system designed for long-term durability and protection.
The direct-to-deck installation and precision flashing components of the Diamond Steel system eliminate the gaps that previously allowed wildlife to enter the roof structure. Combined with improved attic ventilation, the home now benefits from better airflow, improved protection, and a roofing system built to last.
